New Novel - The Hairdresser of Harare

Weaver Press has just released a new novel from Tendai Huchu titled The Hairdresser of Harare. The novel tells the story of Vimbai, a hairdresser, the best in Mrs Khumalo's salon, and she knows she is the queen on whom her workmates depend. Her situation is reversed when the good-looking, smooth-talking Dumisani joins them. However, his charm and desire to please slowly erode Vimbai's rancour and when he needs somewhere to live, Vimbai becomes his landlady. Read more

 

Uncertainty of Hope Nominated for Aidoo-Snyder Prize

Weaver Press is delighted to announce that The Uncertainty of Hope by Valerie Tagwira, has been nominated for The Aidoo-Snyder Book Prize.
The two other nominations are: Not Without Flowers by Amma Darko and The House of Falling Women by Rosemary Ekosso.

The Aidoo-Snyder Book Prize is awarded annually by the Women’s Caucus of the African Studies Association (ASA) for an outstanding book published by a woman that prioritizes African women’s experiences. Named in honor of Ama Ata Aidoo, the celebrated Ghanaian novelist and short-story writer, and Margaret Snyder, the founding Director of UNIFEM, this award – consisting of a $500 cash prize – will be given during the 2010 ASA annual meetings in San Francisco at the Women’s Caucus Annual Lecture and Luncheon. Every fifth year the prize is given for a creative work, this year the Aidoo-Snyder Book Prize will be awarded for a novel.
