Gappah and Chikwava Make Orwell Prize List

Two fiction debuts have made the "well-cooked" 18-strong list for the Orwell Prize for political writing, after last year's lists featured none- and both of them are from Zimbabwe.

Brian Chikwava's novel Harare North (Jonathan Cape) and Petina Gappah's Guardian First Book Prize-winning collection Elegy for Easterly (Faber) both made the list which was released recently.

The shortlist will be announced on 15th April, with the winners crowned on 19th May.
